Skönabäck was formed in 1811 after its property previously belonged to Brodda. The county council Sjöcrona built the castle in 1815 by a ravine where Borgasjön was built. Sten Mörtstedt took over ownership through his company Skönabäck Förvaltnings AB in 1993 when the castle was acquired and in 2002 when the land and outbuildings were purchased.
